Get Involved! World Porridge Day 2022

Monday 10th October 2022 is World Porridge Day. We're asking you to join in our celebrations by hosting a fundraising porridge breakfast for your friends, family or colleagues during the week commencing 10th October and helping us raise 3,000 mugs of porridge.

Perhaps you’d like to invite people to your home, hold an event at work or even encourage a friendly local café to get involved?

Mike Foster is doing just this, by hosting a World Porridge Day networking breakfast at the Holiday Garden Inn in Abingdon on 10th October. £9 from each ticket will be donated to African Children's Fund so if you work in or near Oxfordshire, this could be the event for you! You can buy your tickets here.

If you would like to host an event, simply provide the porridge and a variety of tasty toppings, and ask for donations to support Kenyan Porridge Clubs where 2,000 children in 10 primary schools receive a daily mug of porridge at school to encourage attendance instead of working, scavenging or begging for food on the streets.

Food poverty is one of the biggest reasons for school absence in Kenya and this simple programme has seen absenteeism reduce by over 80% in participating schools. If that weren’t enough, children receiving porridge each day are healthier, perform better in sports and achieve improved examination results, significantly increasing the likelihood they will enrol in secondary school.

Each mug of porridge costs just 9p so for every £9 in donations you receive from your World Porridge Day breakfasts, 100 children will receive a nutritious porridge meal rather than having to work, scavenge or beg on the streets.

We would love to see your Porridge breakfasts so don't forget to tag us in your social media posts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram, and add the hashtag #PenniesForPorridge!
