20th Anniversary: An Evening of Storytelling & Celebration

A large group of around 25 people, sitting and standing beneath a leafy canopy and trees made out of rope.

We were delighted to officially launch our 20th Anniversary celebrations at The Story Museum in Oxford last Friday with around 60 guests joining us for an evening of Storytelling and Celebration.

It was wonderful to see so many friendly faces in such a fun location, and we were thrilled that so many of those present told us they’d learnt something new about African Children’s Fund during the course of the event.

Many of our Trustees and team shared an array of stories and folk tales, some on behalf of our partners in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Zimbabwe, and summarised what the future might have in store.

During the event, we also launched our 20th Anniversary Appeal, through which we’re aiming to raise an additional £20,000 to help our partners grow their projects further in line with what their communities need the most.

This might include school kitchens to improve the efficiency of school feeding programmes and the health of school cooks; new toilets to improve hygiene and sanitation; new educational facilities and resources including books, libraries and solar panels; or simply even more porridge and sanitary towels so more children can go to school without interruption.

We were also pleased to receive messages of support from some of our partners:

I want to commend African Children’s Fund and all its supporters, along with the Watoto Kwanza Kenya team, for working selflessly in the interest of supporting children’s education. We shall use this anniversary to chart the way forward for more valuable additions to our programmes in the years ahead.” - Peter Ng’ugi, Watoto Kwanza Kenya

“African Children’s Fund has been a great partner (I would not want to call you donor because apart from funding us, you do support our projects and give us invaluable advice when needed). We feel that you are part of us. Thank you very much African Children’s Fund for your love and support.” - Judith Kinobe, SAFE Uganda

Our thanks goes to the team at The Story Museum for their kind hospitality, as well as all those who were able to join us. We’re looking forward to sharing more 20th Anniversary stories and events as the year progresses!
