Congratulations The Batt School
We would like to offer our congratulations to The Batt CE Primary School in Witney who have secured a Bronze Award in the Global Neighbours scheme, in recognition of the school’s wide-ranging steps to love their global neighbours.
From their proactive eco-committee, to a Fairtrade cafe and a link to the Joy Children’s Centre in Kenya, pupils and staff at The Batt CE Primary School, have been working hard to take their place as global citizens.
We’re exceptionally proud to have played a little part in their journey to receiving this well-deserved accreditation through their link to Joy, and Dee at African Children’s Fund was very happy to attend their Fairtrade Cafe earlier this year.
Sarah Adair, Global Neighbours Lead at The Batt School, said: “We are thrilled to be recognised for the work we have done as a whole school community to raise awareness of the extreme inequalities across our globe and perhaps more importantly, the steps we can take to address these. The pupils learn about global issues regularly and gain an understanding of injustice in our world. Our Christian Ethos Committee has worked hard to plan for and monitor our development as a school which empowers pupils to be global citizens and courageous advocates.”
Katy Harding Jones, Head of School, said: “The children have thoroughly enjoyed the project so far. Our world is increasingly connected and our hope is for our children to grow as responsible global citizens who care about issues such as the environment and access to healthcare.”
Any primary school in England can join the Global Neighbours scheme. There are three levels of accreditation: bronze, silver and gold. These are verified by independent assessors, who look for evidence across five areas: school leadership, teaching and learning; collective worship and spiritual development; pupil participation; and community engagement.
If you are affiliated to a primary school and would like to integrate real-life examples of the impact of global education in your ethics or Global Citizenship programmes, we would love to hear from you! You can find more resources on our special Schools page, or email us.
