Cow for Joy Children's Home

One of our partner organisations continuing to play a huge role during these times is the Joy Children's Home in Kenya. Though their on-site school closed early during their local lockdown, their home has continued to support dozens of children and immediately welcomed back older children when their secondary schools shut.

Thanks to your donations, they have been able to maintain food supplies and improve their handwashing and sanitation facilities for both staff and children during Coronavirus restrictions. As its name suggests, Joy is a happy haven for those who stay with them.

The site also hosts a vegetable garden to provide nourishment as well as an opportunity to learn basic farming principles. Alongside that, they have chickens and a cow which provide eggs and milk, and teach the children animal husbandry skills. Which brings us to today's ask.

Unfortunately Joy's cow has died and we'd love to help them buy a new one. A low-yield cow would cost around £400 with a higher-yielding alternative costing £600. The nutrition the cow's milk provides is crucial to keeping the children at Joy healthy and it's far more economical in the long-term than buying milk.

We would be hugely grateful for any donations you might be able to contribute towards Joy's new cow. You can donate via JustGiving, Facebook or by direct bank transfer. We know we've asked for a lot recently and you've continued to support our wonderful partners. Thank you in advance for your continued kindness.
