World Porridge Day 2025 | 5 Top Tips to Get Involved
Friday 10th October sees the return of World Porridge Day and we would love you to join in the celebrations celebrations of all things porridge.
This year, we’re aiming to raise £1,620 - enough to provide a mug of porridge to 2,000 Kenyan children for 10 days. Will you help us?
Read on to find out the Top 5 ways you can get involved:
1) Host your own Porridge Breakfast
Between 6th & 19th October, simply round up your friends, family and co-workers, provide the porridge and a variety of tasty toppings for your guests, and in return, ask for donations for African Children’s Fund’s Porridge Clubs programme, providing a mug of porridge to 1,800 children in Kenya every school day.
A daily mug of porridge slashes absenteeism caused by food poverty, and in schools where Porridge Clubs have been established, children no longer need to work, scavenge or beg on the streets for food. Regular school attendance leads to greater opportunities for prosperity into adulthood, with improved health, income and literacy for the next generation of adults - AND their children - as a direct result of primary school interventions.
Each mug of porridge costs just 9p so for every £9 in donations you receive from your World Porridge Day breakfasts, 100 children will receive a nutritious porridge meal rather than having to work, scavenge or beg on the streets for food.
Your visitors can either give you cash for you to donate to us, or they can simply scan this QR Code to make a donation on our dedicated JustGiving page.
We would love to see photos of your Porridge breakfasts so don't forget to tag us in your social media posts on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn, or email your photos to us instead.
If you would like to transfer cash proceeds from your own porridge breakfast or make a donation for World Porridge Day yourself, simply visit our special World Porridge Day JustGiving page.
2) Join Us at for a Networking Breakfast
If you’re part of the Oxfordshire business community, we would love you to join us at the Hilton Garden Inn in Abingdon for a networking porridge breakfast at 8:00 on Friday 10th October.
Enjoy tea, coffee, a bowl of porridge and an array of your favourite toppings as we network, while finding out how a daily mug of porridge can break the poverty cycle as Kenyan children enter adulthood. The Hilton Garden Inn chef is also planning to whip up some tasty oat-based treats and we're even hoping to offer a taster of true Kenyan uji!
Tickets are £18 each (+ eventbrite fees) from which £11 - or 120 mugs of porridge! - will be donated directly to the Porridge Clubs programme.
3) Encourage a Local Cafe to Join In!
We’d love to see more Porridge Breakfasts being hosted than ever before, but if you’re limited for space at home, why not ask whether your favourite local cafe or coffee shop would like to get involved? Perhaps they could donate an amount or percentage of their breakfast sales on 10th October? Or maybe they could add porridge to the menu for 1 day only?!
We would be very happy to provide them with posters or social media resources to promote their event, and we’ll give them a shout out on our socials too. After all, if you don’t ask, you don’t get… right?!
4) Don’t forget about the Schools!
We’ve attended some lovely porridge tasting events at primary schools in the past, with all classes getting involved - from Reception deciding whether toppings are yummy or yucky, to older year groups tying their events in with lessons on maths, geography and nutrition. If you have youngsters at primary school, why not check whether they’d like to get involved? We have several school resources on our website and for those in the Oxfordshire area, we would be very happy to get involved in an assembly if that’s useful. Let us know how we can help!
5) Donate to our World Porridge Day fundraising page
Time is precious, and we know it won’t be possible for all our supporters to host or attend a World Porridge Day breakfast. If you would simply like to make a donation to our World Porridge Day fundraising page to help children regularly attend school thanks to a daily mug of porridge, we would be incredibly grateful.
However you choose to get involved on World Porridge Day, we thank you very much for your kindness, support and generosity!
